Let me preface this by saying I love my dogs... A LOT. But, at the end of the day, they smell. Unlike most humans, baths are far and few between.

OK, I admit it... sometimes I am just plain lazy. This goes for everything from household chores, to personal hygiene.

Choosing a barrel size on a curling iron dictates curl size. Make sure you choose a curling iron that will create the hair style you want!

General Barrel Size Guide:
Small 3/4" inch barrel will create tight, spiral curls.

Medium 1 1/4" inch barrel creates loose, wavy curls.

In grade school, losing eyelashes was great, anytime one fell out you were granted a wish - or at least that's what Julie Boscamp told me. I was almost pulling them out so I could get all my wishes met. Too bad I did not think to wish for them to grow back when I turned 35 because now my lashes are few and far between... literally.

So, what is the culprit? Everyday I take vitamins, even supplements for hair & skin. I don't wear waterproof mascaras and I always remove my makeup gently. I even refrain from pulling out mascara clumps when I am bored (got tired of digging mascara out of my finger nails too). Ever make a wish and then regret it? When I turned 40, I started to show my age. I wished my skin looked younger. Well, wishes come true... but not always how you planned. My wish came true - sometimes I look like a teen. Yep, I STILL get zits.

Damn that wish genie. Gotta be much more specific on those wishes moving forward.

Anyway, if I remember correctly from my mom scolding me as a child - if you pop those zits, you'll get a scar. So here I am in my 40's with that still echoing in my head. What to do?

I searched on line and saw facialists do something called extractions. I'm a guy, I've never had a facial, but I thought "hey, they are pros, they know." With a little more searching, I found a commonly used device that facialists use: a Comedo Extractor. Sounds kind of evil... I like it. I got one. Not just any Comedo Extractor, but a "Double Comedo Fine Loop Extractor".

In my house, it is now just called "The Tool". I think that happens when something moves to legendary status... the name gets shortened, like Madonna, Sting, or in this case, The Tool.

It is a stainless steel device, about the length of a pencil. It has some weight and shine to it, so you kind of feel like a surgeon ready for an operator when you pick it up. The procedure is simple. Line one of the "loops" up on a zit and gently (or sometimes not so gently) push. Voila... zit no more. And no horrid scar like mom warned you about. With my "Double Comedo", I have a choice of the fine or medium loop - depending on the size of the offending blemish.

Getting acquainted with leg oil.

I wake up early... very early. My dogs insist on getting me up and hanging out with me. What can I say - animals love me. But, being so lovable comes with a price. I am tired when I get up. Sometimes my searing hot shower is just not enough to blast me in to reality.

I can't be sure, but I think most men are like me -- they hate to shave. The thought of dragging the blade across my face just brings up dread. It takes time, it hurts. Yep, I hate it. The choices: 1) continue with the hate relationship, 2) forget it and look like Grizzly Adams, or 3) find something better. My razor already has 4 blades and an extra single blade for tricky areas. The handle vibrates like a billion times a minute from the battery inside. So I think I've maxed out on the hardware.

Both were "manly" enough names for me, so I was ready to try them. All I can say is wow. Even the little ritual for using them somehow adds to the experience. Shower, then re-wet your face with warm water. Shake 3-4 drops of Shave Oil in to your hand, rub all over your face. Squeeze out like a quarter-sized amount Beard Destroyer Shave Cream in your hand, massage it in to your stubble. Put a few drops of water on fingers and rub into cream/beard to activate.
